Worse yet, heart attacks in people with diabetes are more serious and more likely to result in death. Fighting the Double Whammy of Cholesterol and Diabetes - If you have diabetes, you're more likely to have problems with cholesterol - a major contributor to heart disease. That's why diabetes cholesterol control is so important. Diabetes tends to lower your "good" cholesterol and raise your "bad" cholesterol levels. Your doctor may call this "diabetic dyslipidemia," a deadly combination that puts you at risk for coronary heart disease and hardened arteries. Researchers assert that the probability of developing heart disease is doubled with the onset of diabetes. Despite the strong chances of developing heart disease and other diabetes related complications, various steps can be taken in order to significantly reduce the risk of developing these complications. A healthy diabetic lifestyle - making use of proper dieting practices, frequent exercise, and careful monitoring of your blood glucose levels, is a sure way to reduce the probability that a complication of diabetes will affect you. |
