Dispose of Your Sharps by Mail!

Becton Dickinson offers several innovative ways to safely dispose of your sharps.
The Becton Dickinson Home Sharps Container is a special secure container for safe disposal of used insulin syringes and pen needles. According to Becton Dickinson, it has a permanently locking, snap-top lid and holds 70 to 100 insulin syringes or 300 pen needles.

All you do is fill it with your used sharps When it’s full, simply seal it and dispose of properly (check for local regulations for your community).

Becton Dickinson also offers the BD™ Sharps Disposal by Mail system. With this convenient service from Becton Dickinson , you enjoy a safe, convenient way to store and dispose of your sharps.

Here’s how the system works: Purchase the Becton Dickinson Sharps Disposal by Mail at your local pharmacy. Put your used insulin syringes, pen needles and lancets into the container. When the sharps container is full, seal it and place it into the special red bag. Then place the bag inside the postage-paid mailing box and return it to Becton Dickinson.

You’ll receive a certificate of destruction  in the mail to confirm destruction of your sharps container.

Safety Tips from Becton Dickinson

If you don’t have access to Becton Dickinson Sharps Disposal by Mail, and your community does not have specific disposal rules, follow these guidelines:

• Never throw loose sharps into the trash.
• Never flush sharps down the toilet.
• To avoid accidental needle sticks, use a Becton Dickinson Safe-Clip™ to remove needles from insulin syringes and pen needle units. Then, put the rest of the syringe or pen needle in your Becton Dickinson Home Sharps Container. Note that you should never recap or clip a needle that has been used by someone else, which may cause serious infections.
• Put your used insulin syringes, pen needles and lancets in a sharps container.
