About AgaMatrix Diabetic Supplies

AgaMatrix is popular manufacturer of diabetic supplies, including blood glucose monitors and test strips. A relatively young company, it is known for a willingness to embrace technology and stay current with digital trends. AgaMatrix is also recognized for WaveSense, a form of blood glucose screening the company claims significantly improves the accuracy of readings.

AgaMatrix and WaveSense Technology

AgaMatrix's WaveSense technology is marketed as an improvement over traditional meters, which rely on static electrochemistry to produce readings. According to AgaMatrix, WaveSense's reliance on dynamic electrochemistry makes it's less susceptible to performance error.

Among the inaccuracies AgaMatrix claims WaveSense reduces are errors related to temperature and altitude, test strip manufacturing, red blood cell concentrations and other minor blood variations. As a result, AgaMatrix promotes all its WaveSense products as exceptionally accurate.

While there may be some room for debate on how much of an improvement this technology actually represents, the bottom line is that WaveSense products have been FDA-cleared. Further information on WaveSense and its effectiveness will doubtless become clearer over the years as more studies take place, but for now WaveSense can be counted on to provide at least a minimum standard of performance.

AgaMatrix, Computer Technology, and Apps

While many blood glucose monitors take a low-tech approach to minimize potential complications, AgaMatrix embraces computer technology as much as possible. Several of the company's blood glucose monitors are designed to hook up directly to PCs, where AgaMatrix's blood glucose management program Zero-Click provides analysis of recent blood sugar readings.

Zero-Click is an interesting and potentially useful program, particularly for anyone that experiences erratic blood sugars or is hungry for information. The program provides visual charts of recent results and key data, and also allows users to view their average blood sugars over a period of weeks. A 'healthcare professional mode' is also available, which provides greater in-depth data for physicians.

As of September 2011, AgaMatrix is also seeking FDA approval to add a diabetes management app for the iPhone and iPod touch. In theory, this app would act much like the current Zero-Click, but in mobile form. Users would sync their blood glucose monitors to their iPhone or iPod touch, and then review their blood sugar information on the app. This advanced gadgetry may be of relatively limited use to people with stable blood glucose levels, but it could offer a potential boon to people that need help managing diabetes on-the-go.
